Evaluating A Health Promotion Website Information Technology Essay

Evaluating A Health Promotion Web web identify Information Technology searchThe aim of this evaluation is to critique a health promotion web localise relating to a current health promotion topic. As the net income attainers a vast total of data from a variety of sources it is commonly used to aid evidence found practice. It is important to stick out an aw atomic number 18ness of how to use schooling from an internet based resource as it is unregulated, in that respectfore inaccurate or falsified nurture can be presented on websites to look true. It is necessary to strike an understanding of how to assess internet based resources to check for data quality and accuracy. (Dobler and Eagleton, 2006)The website selected for the evaluation is from the National Health Service (NHS) websiteImmunisation the safest way to protect your child The HPV vaccination can economic aid protect you from cervical cancer for years to come. (NHS, 2008)It will be evaluated using a critique in the form of a series of questions designed by Jim Kapoun (Kapoun, 1998) with the aim to determine the accuracy of the culture in spite of waitance the site. The critique achieves this by intercommunicate five key questions relating to the accuracy, authority, objectivity, currency and the coverage of the information.During its introduction over the hold out year the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine has been habitualised in the media. The vaccine is free under the NHS for girls aged between 12 and 18. The World Health Organisation (WHO) states that there atomic number 18 over 100 types of HPV, 13 of which it is reason subject to assume are responsible for 100% of the cases of cervical cancer (WHO, 2007).The website was written as detailed in the site by, a team which consisted of a consultant pediatrician, senior medical officers, immunisation experts, principal and senior scientists with in ascribe from the health promotion agency (NHS, 2008).It is non possible to contact the members of this team on an individual basis as their names are not listed, further there are contact expand for general enquires including, an address, fax number and email address. The purpose of the site is to provide information to the earth about cervical cancer and its vaccine with information relating to cost, eligibility and where to admission fee it. It also provides information for people who are outside of England on how they can adit information in their own health setting. Due to the authors names and qualifications not being disclosed it is not possible to know if they are qualified to write the information and if they have conducted any other forms of research related to this orbital cavity of study. It is important to note the difference between the authors of the information within the site and a webmaster. An author of a website writes the information within the site that is used by the public. A webmaster is aPerson responsible for creating and maintaining a worldwide website (Czar and Hebda, 2009, p. 539) they may also be termed as a website designer. The website was create by the NHS which is part of the subdivision of Health (D.O.H). This can be confirmed by checking the domain of the website which is .nhs.uk showing it is part of the NHS and a United Kingdom website. As the information within the site can be validated back to a reputable organisation such as the D.O.H this increases the authority of the information within the site (Czar and Hebda, 2009).There are contact names for the head of publishing and for the head of immunisation information, which are different from the website designer, showing that the website designer is not supplying the information about the vaccine. contempt the authors and publishers qualification not being displayed, the information itself must not be dismissed due to miss of knowledge of where it was sourced from. It requires the nurse or client to evaluate the publisher of the information to e stablish if the organisation is credible or not, hence whether to utilise the information or not.The goal of this website is to promote immunisation to help proscribe cervical cancer (NHS 2008). The site achieves this by providing the public and healthcare professionals with information in order that the public will make an informed decision in favour of immunisation. The information within the site can be split into two parts, each of a different standard. The standards are different as they are intended for two different target audiences and there is a need to use different terminology for each section (Czar and Hebda, 2009). One section is targeted at the public, the other is aimed at health care professionals. The information targeted at the public is presented in a manner that is easy to read and understand. There is very half-size use of jargon and where medical terminology is used it is explained. There are contacts to other resources which may be more appropriate for parent s such as a link to the information library where parents can obtain more information. The links for teenagers consist of, a link to a social networking site called Bebo which is popular with young teenagers. Here girls can comment on their experience with the vaccine and to talk to others about their experience. There would be an issue as to how the information on this site was regulated, to ensure that the site is not being abused. An alternative link is to a site called HABBO, which is an online chat forum where girls can talk online, to other girls and to NHS advisers asking questions in relation to the vaccine. The information targeted at healthcare professionals differs in its content. It offers more information relating to training of staff through online power points and links to upcoming conferences. The information also details about the distribution of the vaccination, protocols associated with it and printable resources. Often a problem associated with information on the internet is that it is cheaper to produce information of a misfortunate standard that looks good, not good quality information of the same presentable standard (Coiera, 2003). However this site does not fit this statement and the information within it is of a good standard and well presented. The site has clearly stated that it aims to promote immunisationImmunisation the safest way to protect your child (NHS, 2008) this could present issues of bias. The site presents the information in a way that shows both side of the debate. The information does have a lean towards the positives of the vaccination, however this is not great enough to have extended to a marketing strategy which would show clear bias (McCormick and Saba, 2006). The site is sponsored by the D.O.H, which would be in favour of immunisation to prevent the information of cancer, as it would be more cost effective overall to vaccinate than to treat cancer. The sponsorship by the D.O.H would indicate bias, though consid ering it is a health promotion website, to have a reputable organisation fund the site rather than an alternative organisation without a reputation for quality information instils confidence. The website does not state when it was written, rewrite or reviewed (Czar and Hebda, 2009, p.124) however it was copyrighted in 2008, so it is reasonable to assume that the information within the site is relatively up to date. According to information on the website it is updated every week although, it lacks dates to confirm this so the currency of the information is questionable. The site contains links to other sources of information however these pages do not contain dates devising it is impossible to know how current the information within them is. The links do not state if they have been updated, yet the information for healthcare professionals contains a link to a monthly newsletter published by the D.O.H. and to recent letters relating to the vaccine, all of which imply that the site is regularly updated. None of the information on the site relating to the HPV vaccination appears to be out of date irrelevant. Searching through the site, all the links take the user to their designated page and there do not appear to be any links that no longer function. There is nothing to state that the links on the site have been evaluated, though the information within the links does complement the theme of the website. The site contains a mixture of schoolbook and images. The images are mainly promotional and do not distract the client from the text. The text itself is simplistic and easy to understand and is not overly complicated with scientific terminology. This is so that people of different levels of intellect and understanding will be able to use the information (Coiera, 2003).The information within the site and the documents which are available online do not contain references to other authors or sources of work. The use of references allows the work from which the infor mation was taken to be checked, (Czar and Hebda, 2009) nevertheless because there are no references it is not possible to know the quality of the original information, who the authors were and when the work was written. The lack of references reduces the credibility of the information within the site, though taking in to consideration that the site is published by the D.O.H, the information would have been checked before being placed into the public domain. The site it is compatible with many different forms of software which are used on a variety of computers. There are links on the site, which join to pages where it is possible to download the necessary browser software required to view the site. All the information is free and where required the client is able to print off hard copies of the information. The site is enabled to be viewed in different sizes depending on what is required. It is possible to obtain the information within it in one of nineteen other languages, however this will have to be originally sourced by someone who understands English, as it needs to be located from the site and printed. It can be argued that due to the sites lack of information relating to the authors or publishers qualifications and credentials, the information within the site has the potential to be inaccurate. Similarly the lack of references to other sources of work and with no dates being provided for the work could in addition strengthen this argument. Nevertheless, the site does contain information within it that is useful and appropriate for the different target audiences that the site is aimed at. More over the site is published by the D.O.H, despite there being the potential for bias from this organisation it has a duty of care to the public to provide current and accurate information. The public has access to a large source of information through the internet which can be of spirited or poor quality. As the number of high quality resources on the internet contin ue to rise, in turn will the number of poor quality sources. In the future the number of clients who have access to this information will increase as the population ages (Coiera, 2003). Nurses need to be aware of the need to critique the information found either by themselves or by the client and in turn help them to understand what they have found (McCormick and Saba, 2006) whilst encouraging them to evaluate the information for themselves. This is to ensure that clients do not put their health at risk through trusting inaccurate or unsafe information. Teaching clients how to evaluate information and where to find high quality information will ensure that poor quality sources are not mistaken for high quality and used by the client. On the whole the internet isA wonderful information delivery tool. However, it is just that a tool. Our ability to think, to ask the right questions, to interpret, integrate, and synthesize what we find is what leads to value and makes all the differenc e. Producing animation content is not a tough job, but it consumes more time than producing an non-animated content(Young, 2012).Making a bond with children by telling stories has been practiced from some(prenominal) centu ries ago. Even today, when we hear the following language Once up on a time, we could remember the same words said by our grandparents or parents to us. The yarn telling process is not simply as passing the time. Through telling stories, we can inculcate positive effects such as changing attitude, behavior on children. Instigating stories could make a child to follow honorableistic values that can happen to the morality of life. The most important points in telling stories to children is what type of stories have been taught and how it was described to them. Parents should not think like story telling is a part of bed-time entertainment but that could be the time to pass on the moral values to them. bosh telling creates mutual bond in the midst of parents and their kids. With the disintegration of joint families, the concept of telling stories is also gradually diminishing. This, in addition to the proliferation of mass media, has replaced the family members by television. The re is an argument that telling stories to children through television programs may have an impact on their personality and development. In contrast, there is a counter argument that telling stories better than allowing them an extra hour to sit with a computer or television. There are many ways for the parents to tell a story such as past life incidents, experiences and what they would listen from their parents. Apart from these, our culture has a mixture of mythological stories such as Ramayana and Mahabharata.Review of LiteratureThe consequences of television have been analyzed by parents, media specialists, practitioners, colloquy experts and social reviewer from the year 1950 onwards. Television has the control on childrens metacognitive, shared, expressive and other behaviors (Mares Woodard, 2001).Television sets an example of dyadic communication and several areas of family life. Children are admired by the television because of lay outing numerous child characters. Children show more interest in watching television programs which consists of several child characters (Schmitt, Anderson Collins, 1999).Morals are also passed on to generations. Finding out the source of different moral stories are difficult, because it has come from various parts of the world. But in India, most of the stories have said and it originates from Aesop. Aesop tales are quite popular among children in India. In the same way, there are several types of stories have been taught in India.Panchatantra tales are famous and it consists of Indian stories very convertible to the Aesops fable are based on animals kingdom. Jataka tales masss with the people who believe in reincarnation, i.e. life after death. These are the life stories as different life forms, conveying the message of honesty.Aesops fables area also quite popular. All children like their pet animals. Those kinds of stories make a deal with birds or animals. There are 100 stories only on animal kingdom and brilliantly attached with the moral.Children can focus their brain power with Birbal, index Akbars famous intelligent and clever consultant.Myths and legends are the combined incision of human life. Those are surrounded us forever. There are 140 and more varieties of mythological stories consist several values (Moral Stories for Kids, n.d.). According to Bennett (1995a, b) children must hear moral stories in order to develop good values and moral literacy. Believers of conventional character education state that, listening moral stories in one of the important aspect of moral education. A child acquires idea about how vital it is to vital with a good quality and desexualizeting a better comprehension of the moral life by reading or listening a moral story (Narvaez, 2002).In the case of Malaysia, we found that the programs generally contained more positive values than negative ones, whether they were of local or foreign origins. This is due to strict security review imposed by the governme nt. Although both foreign and local programs can challenge the societys basic norms and values, the challenges must be balanced, conservatively expressed and ultimately have a positive contribution to humanity in the eyes of the censors. In this case, neither the program nor channel origin matters. We postulated that in a society with government censorship, the manner of negative or positive values in television is not determined by the programs place of origin, but by the censors own values and perceptions(Hagiwara et al., 1999).traditionally our children would have been heard from parents, grandparents, neighbors, and friends but now many of the stories they hear from the accumulation of media performed by various fictional characters (Charlotte, 2010).In the earlier times children were used to happen out with their peers, friends, and had make some kind of physical activities like cycling, vie construction games etc.,. But now the scenario has changed. Today television locked the children with in the tetrad walls. peculiarly cartoon channels are making them fun and it has become a great pass time for children.(Chanda, 2008).According to Williams (1993), A theme expresses a public figure among story components in a form that is abstracted from the specific story context, and it also comments on that pattern in some way. The comment need not be evaluative. Thus, we define a theme as involving a commentary attached to a core concept. On the other hand theme is cognise as the idea that holds the story together, such as a comment about society, human nature, or the human condition (as cited in Lukens, 1982).Taylor (1986) studied the magnate of children aged 9 -11 year old is easy to narrate an expository text in a story rather than summarizing. Goldman et al. (1984) examined the understanding of stories among children aged between 5 to 12. The cognitive structure of children aged below 10 would not make them to extract a theme. This could happen because of projecting expository text and tremendous fictional stories(Narvaez, 2002).According to Dick Cook, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios said, Animation is a new and rapidly expanding area in India, and the collaboration between Disney and Yash Raj Film studios will bring the very best in story-telling and cutting edge technology together as we make wonderful films that appeal to the entire family(Puljal, 2008).Earlier, only cartoon net profit channel was there to telecast foreign cartoon progrmas. But later on, local made programs were also telecast in order to cover the people. At first, new animation content creators took encouragement from the lowest hanging fruit available to them popular tradition, inspiring movies like Hanuman, Krishna and Ramayana. Then came fictionalizing these mythological stories with shows such as Krishna Balram where characters based on these mythologies were placed in fictional plots. Now, we are at a stage where the linkage to mythology has dwind led further. Series like Chhota Bheem on Pogo and Roll No. 21 on Cartoon Network just have character names similar to those in mythology.Statement of the problemSince our childhood to till adolesent , we have been listening to stories. In an earlier times, our parents, grandparents have been telling different genres of stores with morals at the end. They know, the value system of each child would be determined by what kind of stories have been taught, how often it is repeated and how far the family members have been practiced the same.Today plenty of storeis have been tausht by television programs. The purpose of this study is to provide more than more specific way of looking at the content of childrens most favorite cartoon television program Chhota Bheem, to determine the degree and form of moral values in a story to children.Research QuestionsThe study has been done based on the following objectives.Does Chhota bheem program teach moral values to children? How many episodes in C hhota Bheem program contains moral values? What kind of stories does Chhota Bheem program tell?Do the contnet of Chhota Bheem is appropriate to real life?MethodologyIt is a study of television deals with what is really there on the screen. Each program is analysed based on the verbal and non-verbal elements which may consists of moral values.Theoritical PerspectiveSocial learning theoryAccording to Albert Bandura (1977), cartoon television programs are designed for children repeatedly implementing social learning theory. For example, Chhota Bheem, a childrens television program, the protagonis t present with a condition of how to tackle the situation and how to be an honest person and maintaining friendship forever. The result is, the children learning about the problem solving techniques, the quality of being honest are done by notice the discoveries presented by the actors. This way the concept of social learning is applied.Labeling theoryLabeling theory is an extension of social learning theory otherwise known as social reaction theory. According to Howard Becker, it involves how learning can occur by attaching or imposing labels, titles and attributesreal or unrealto others. For example, in Chhota Bheem cartoon television program the characters of various social groups to behave a certain way, accidentally creating a universal stereotype not reflective of candor. As the viewing audience of that group becomes saturated with labels falsely representing their behaviors, may learn through observation how to behave specific to the fiction being propagated, and thus the label becomes reality.Cultivation theoryAccording George Gerbner (1976) the primary suggestion of cultivation theory states that the more time people spend living in the television world, the more likely they are to believe social reality portrayed on television (Wikipedia, 2012). Television cultivates from infancy the very predispositions and preferences that used to be acquired from other primary sources The repetitive pattern of televisions mass-produced messages and images forms the mainstream of a roughhewn symbolic environment. Due to its accessibility and availability to the masses, television has become the central cultural arm of our society(Gerbner, 1979).Findings and AnalysisConcept A small incident happens in all story in the program and this is all about how Chhota Bheem and his Friends handle the every circumstance and finding solution for every problem. ProgramThe tile tune consists of 54 consequetive shots and among those 12 shots deals with good values. The Ji ngle contains five good values associated with it. Visuals contain 60% of positive values such as kindness to people and animals, showing responsibility, being generous, helping, tolerance and unity remaining part consists of neagive values such as fighting with people or animals, showing eating laddoos eer, boss around others and gender discrimination.Figure 1 represent that majority of stories in Chhota Bheem program teach moral values to children. Relatively positive values are henpecked than negative value. This signifies that the portrayal of the characters in the scene and the way they taught stories to children. There is a significant difference in showing poitive values and negative values in the program.Chhota Bheem is a very well known cartoon program among children now days. The overall programs are based on perfectly stories or on short incidents which are held in and around Dholakpur. A Student According to Ted Kooser Essay -- poem analysis and review

Ted Koosers poem scholarly person underlines how the tone of a student truly is. As we were discussing our insights of the poem Student by Ted Kooser, Omar Mejia mentioned how he found a comparison with a turtle in the poem. I have imagined a baby turtle and their journey when is natural and running trying to reach the sea. Imagine the life of a turtle that their life starts in the sand and after its journey to their future begins. Somehow I agree with this idea. As I imagined the complicate and hard life that a sea turtle must have I also recall how the life of a student could be as hard and complicate. Sometimes the life of a student can be complicated, busy, confusing, struggling, happy, sad, depressing, demanding and joyful and so on and so forth. The life of a student is a life full of responsibilities Kooser first mentions the best friend of a student The green shell of his backpack(Line 1). A backpack that will accompany the student during most of the studying time in which a student will carry their books, notes maybe a computer. As of me I have my backpack most of the time at s...

Before I explain and talk about why a ball goes farther when chance on with an aluminium bat, I would like to drink and explain some vocabulary concept and words. A collision, transfers neural impulse or kinetic push button from one object to an early(a) object. There are cardinal types of collisions, elastic collision and inelastic collision. An elastic collision is a collision that occurs when two objects bounce apart when they collide the total kinetic energy in the system is the same before and subsequently the collision. For example, elastic collision occurs when equally massive balls move in the same direction in this case momentum is transferred from one ball to another ball. And an inelastic collision is a collision that occurs when two objects collide and do not bounce away from each other the collision changes the total kinetic energy in a closed system. For example, inelastic collision occurs when two cars crash and join themselves into one the objects stick toge ther after colliding. In inelastic collision all that happened is the loss of some kinetic energy, objects don not necessarily need to stick together in an inelastic collision. Whether a collision is an elastic collision or inelastic collision momentum would always be the same before and/or after the collision as long as you have a close system. According to Asif Shakur, Chair of Physics and Engineering at Salisbury State University, explains, aluminium is a hard material. It doesnt have a lot of give. In other words, aluminum is highly elastic. Therefore, very little of the balls initial kinetic energy (the energy associated with motion) is used up in permanently deforming the aluminum. Indeed, the aluminum springs back quickly and the ball retains much of its initial energy. In co... ...reased the animosity between the two players (Russell). The dit of all of this is that Piazzas bat broke professional players typically go through a lot of bonkers during a baseball season. In conclusion, there are a various numbers of reasons why a ball go farther when hit with an aluminum bat such as, aluminum bat can be swung faster, aluminum bats have the trampoline effect, aluminum bats have winder sweet spots, and aluminum bats dont break. A ball goes farther when hit with aluminum bat because of the fact that the bat is very lightweight and have a large sweet spot in which to hit the ball. In order to have a ball with a high speed, in other words, lots of kinetic energy, the collision has to an elastic collision. Aluminum bats can be swung faster because the barrel of an aluminum bat is empty the distribution of mass along the length of a metal bat.

A Feminist Analysis of Perceval, Tristan and Isolt, and Aucassin and Ni

A Feminist Analysis of Perceval, Tristan and Isolt, and Aucassin and Nicolette Currently, there is a literary argument among feminists as to whether the demeaning portrayal of women in popular media causes or is caused by negative attitudes in modern floriculture. A similar debate exists among historians of the late halfway ages as to whether the rise in popularity of the cult of the Virgin, her portrayal in art, and the code of chivalry caused or was caused by changing attitudes towards women. Many factors in the late middle ages coincided to constitute an entirely impudently role for women contact with the Muslim world in Spain, the rising popularity of religious life, and the aforementioned cultural changes. All of these factors are intertwined with the new attitudes that arose well-nigh women. Virginity became exalted, femininity was lauded, courtly love turned women into objects of devotion rather than objects of desire. In short, women were placed on a pedestal. The cu ltural paradox of this shift in attitudes is that by being placed on that pedestal, women became objects rather than individuals. This dichotomy between respect for women as a group and respect for individual women is intelligibly shown in tercet Medieval Romances. Perceval, Tristan and Isolt, and Aucassin and Nicolette may vary greatly in plot, tone and style, entirely the underlying assumption is the same. In the Medieval Romance, women may be objects of devotion, but they are still merely objects to earned, won, owned and dominated. The first example of this attitude is the saga of the damsel whom Perceval boorishly assaults. This woman, never named, is utterly enslaved and abused by men. From this evidence, it seems that the former is true. The pervasiveness of the oppressive attitudes demonstrated in these texts show clearly the divided view of women in the late middle ages. The respect of womanhood which was so central to the chivalric code did not translate into greater freedom for women themselves. advanced opponents of feminism claim that the Womens Movement has reversed this dichotomy, namely that individual freedoms have devalued women as a group. Perhaps we should ask why our culture has a problem with valuing womanhood and valuing women concurrently. Jewish Contributions to the Early Civil Rights Movement Essay -- The Ci

In many ways, the 1950s planted the seeds for the progress of the 60s. Glimpses of the rebellious generation, who would later find its way to the anti-War protests, are name throughout the fifties, specifically in movies like Rebel Without a Cause and more overtly in Jack Kerouac?s On The Road. The move away from conformity and towards more of an individualistic mentality began in the somewhat closed circles of the Beat causal agent and spread throughout America during the sixties. The Montgomery Bus Boycotts and dark-brown V. Board of Education were great precursors to the revolutionary civil rights legislation of the mid sixties. Whereas for most of the aforementioned societal changes, the 50s only exhibited hints of what was to come in the sixties, members of the civil rights movement built an impressive resume and did more than merely build a base for the 60s. The fifties marked a time when civil rights began to take trend stage for many Americans and served as the call to a ction for African-Americans. Blacks decided that they would no longer sit around waiting for change, but that they were going to get up and right the wrongs of the North and South. Tremendous historical events, some which took days and some which took years, were planned and successfully carried out in this decade. Individuals were mobilized, great leaders emerged, and powerful organizations took substance stage. But, the African-Americans were certainly not alone. Along with them stood Whites of all backgrounds and religions, of all social classes and perspectives, and of all reasons and justifications.American Jews, who had the unenviable predicament of being both White and a persecuted minority, disproportionately involved themselves with the struggle against s... ...ms Martin Luther King Jr. and the Jewish Community p.41. 19. College - Is it Worth it? :: Argumentative Persuasive Essays

College - Is it Worth it?   Right now in our society a college teaching is no longer an option or privilege, but rather a necessity. We are practically raised and conditioned to believe that one needs higher education in order to succeed in life. There is a saying that says if you think education is expensive, try ignorance. But as technology is constantly travel and computers are running almost anything, is a college education really necessary? There are flock whom have never set foot in a college and are doing better than great deal who have their masters degree. There are views from both sides that contain a valid argument.   The main reason why people go to college is not because they want to but because they have to. Most high school seniors are pressured by their guidance counselors and parents to go to college because it is the right thing to do. In the essay that Caroline Bird wrote College is a Waste of Time and Money, she states that students go to college because . . . Mother wanted them to go, or some other reason tout ensemble irrelevant to the course of studies for which college is supposedly organized. (481) The student may have different ideas about what he or she wants to do in life, but because they think that these mentors accredit what is best for them, they probably end up doing something they do not want to do, resulting in being miserable and resentful.   Lets face it, going to college is socially prestigious. Most people go to college only for the title of being called a college student. For some young people, it is a graceful way to get away from home and become fissiparous without losing the financial support of their parents. (Bird 484) They do not want to be looked down upon so they do what would look best in the eyes of society. It is practically hum into our heads that in order to be a productive citizen of society, you should have some sort of college education. Being a college stude nt is perhaps a more sound role than being, for example, a janitor or a garbage man because of the negative connotations such jobs receive.
